London school guide by Educate Private
In the UK, formal education begins at 4 years old and is one of the most well-respected educational systems in the world. It offers a broad range of subjects with a strong focus on the core subjects of English, Maths, Science and Humanities as well as a good foundation in foreign modern languages. There is good inter-curricular cooperation to give a useful balance to learning.
Decide whether you are looking to educate your children in the British system or International system. Bear in mind that the children in the British system start earlier than the International or American systems and therefore children moving from those systems might be slightly behind at the beginning. Do not be alarmed.
Advice on school selection:
Visit the schools! We can send you all of the information, statistics, assessment reports and lists of destination schools/universities, and you could walk through the gates and just get a gut feeling that this is not the right school for you. The reality is that not every school is right for every child and you shouldn’t force it.
Advice on preparation:
The admissions process can seem very daunting to a child, whatever the age, so the most important thing is to introduce them to the process and prepare them so that it is not so scary. This can be done through one-on-one tuition, cultural tuition, academic holiday camps, Skype tuition and interview practice. The better the preparation the better the performance.
